The Kokoda Challenge Gold Coast is hailed as Australia’s toughest team endurance event. It is a gruelling cross country team hike over 96km with a time limited for completion of 39 hours. These numbers hold special significance in Kokoda history; 96km is the exact length of the Kokoda Track in PNG and the time limit of 39 hours stands in honour of the 39th Militia, who were the first Australian force to engage with the Japanese in PNG in World War II. Each team of four participants (with the help of their Support Crew) trek the 96km course along fire trails, crossing 12 creeks and climbing summits of 5,000m of vertical elevation. The goal is to finish as a complete team of four in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.
What are they Raising Money for?
The Kokoda Youth Foundation receives 100% of funds raised to run youth programs in Qld and Vic. These programs aim to give direction and guidance to young teens through tests of physical endurance, behaviour based learning and instilling the values of the Kokoda Campaign of WWII.
